Well, it’s a well known fact that mostly women tend to experience acute knee and joint pains once they cross the age of 35-40 years. This problem is not specifically faced by the Indian women themselves. This is a common condition which is faced by a majority of the women on a global level.

Why it happens mostly to women? Are men spared? Well, men too not spared, but the incidence is less as compared to women.

What Could Be The Reason For This knee & Joint Pains Among Women?

Well in order to get a better understanding of this issue getting an idea of women physiology matters. Women are blessed by a hormone called Estrogen, which even prevents heart attacks. The supply of Estrogen can be seen all along starting from Puberty to Menopause. This estrogen is the reason behind why women are very less prone to heart attacks compared to men.

Now comes the age factor. Usually menopause attains by the age of 45–50. In some it occurs early as well as delayed. After menopause, the functioning of the hormone stops among women which lead to several conditions. Several physiological changes will take place which majorly include low immunity, joint pain etc. The major condition which needs to be addresses here is that with the abrupt halt in the functioning of Estrogen It leads to a condition called osteoporosis condition, which is characterized by lowering of calcium and phosphorous levels in bone. This simply implies that decrease in the calcium & phosphorous levels in the body will lead to weakening of the skeletal system.

Also, this is the same age where fat deposition happens immensely. That is the person will become obese with excess accumulation of fat deposits in the body. Among women, a major portion of fat deposition occurs over the waist region thus creating more stress over the limbs due to the increase in the weight, especially on femur bone.

Knee joint is the region in the human body which gets to bear most of the body weight.

Well by taking all these aspects into consideration you can get a clear idea on why women have knee & joint pain after they cross the age of 35-40.

No estrogen → Osteoporosis → Weak joints → Weight gain → Knee Joint pain

In India, women tend to work in kitchen for long hours for which they need to maintain a standing posture. This will affect the knee joint badly. This is simply why knee & joint pain is common among Indian woman. At the age of menopause or just 1 or 2 year before that, the symptoms will start.
